Milan is one of 53 Italian cities participating in European Mobility Week, the annual campaign on sustainable urban mobility, organised by the European Commission.
The initiative, which is titled “In town without my car”, runs until 22 September, is to encourage European local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable non-polluting transport measures. Each participating city is committed to improving its infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians.
Activities planned for Milan included a conference on mobility (19 September), and 22 September has been designated Milano Parking Day. Some of the permanent measures implemented by Milan recently include the re-establishment of the Zone C "congestion free area" in the centre, speed reduction near schools, expansion of pedestrian streets and new regulations regarding traffic circulation and parking.
