Milanís Christmas lights have been switched on all over the town but not everyone is satisfied. The more sophisticated city inhabitants are asking why they canít have designer lights like neighbouring Turin (see www.torinocultura.it)?
Apparently a more-modern, artistic look, designed by big names in the art world, has been requested for a while. But once again Milan will have to make do with the traditional Christmas images; stars, angels, Christmas trees, nativity figures and such like.
The cost of the decorations, which will swing over the main streets, drape the most prestigious palazzi and beatify the cityís squares until 7 January, is Ä1 million.
With that sort of money to invest maybe next year Milan really could have designer lights.
